VALENTINE HEART SOCKS PATTERN

MATERIALS:
Wool-Ease [MC] #097 Ivory Sprinkles. Small amount of color [B] #103 Strawberry Heather. Set of 4, Size #5 dpns. Stitch holder.

GAUGE: Approx. 5.5 sts per inch.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Difficult. Experience with Two-color Stranding or Duplicate Stitch is required.

SIZE OF SOX: Small Adult

IMPORTANT NOTES: Be sure to measure your foot before casting on. You must have enough stitches to allow for the two-color stranding, which does not have the stretchiness you need to get the sock over your foot. I knit mine loose enough to fit over my heel. This causes the cuff-leg area to slouch a bit, and that's the look and feel I love. The hearts pop out right at the ankles, and look so cute!!

If you prefer a tight-fitting cuff-leg area, you can knit the sock ommitting the hearts. Then add the hearts after the sock is finished using the DUPLICATE STITCH method.

PATTERN
Cast on 40 stitches [or enough sts to allow for the Hearts 8-stitch repeat so the sock fits over your foot]. Divide stitches evenly over 3 dpns and Knit 8 rounds.

TURN HEEL:
SPECIAL NOTE: Ahhhhh, we now come to the area which seems to be causing trouble,
so a small word of explanation might be of help here. LOL
I have a rather unusual method of turning my heels because I have a very short wide heel. Therefore I turn my heels to accomodate my squat little heels, and have written the pattern accordingly. Please feel free to use your favorite heel turning method if you desire a longer, more narrow heel.

ROW 1: K 13, Sl 1, K1, psso, K1. Turn, leaving 3 sts unworked.
ROW 2: P9, P2tog, P1, Turn, leaving 3 sts unworked.
