It had a beautiful, sorta velvety fabric which matched
their predominately rust-colored living room furniture perfectly.

I was with her when she picked it out, and decided
right then and there to crochet him an afghan as
my birthday gift to him. He loved to curl up on the
sofa under a blanket and watch TV at night, so a
matching afghan would be the perfect addition to
the recliner.
Mom and I did GOOD!! How he adored that recliner and
the afghan. Dad, recliner and afghan soon became close
pals, and the three of them were pretty much inseparable
up until he passed away recently. Every evening that he
was home, you would find him curled up in his recliner
snuggled under his afghan watching TV (or the insides of
his eye lids) whichever came first. (Grin)
And now for the testimonial. I crocheted that afghan
what... 24 years ago. It was used and abused every
single day since then. It has been washed and dried
countless times, and it still looks like brand new!!
I used RED HEART yarn to make Dad's afghan.
That yarn is vertually indestructable. I swear by it for
afghans. And
I'm so glad that I made that afghan for my Dad all those
many years ago. There are so many wonderful memories
attached to it.
Your afghan now lives with me Dad. And you live on in my heart.

I'm on the verge of popping out all over in hives, my blood
preassure must be up several notches, I'm blue in the face
and my left eye is twitching, so I just simply GIVE UP!!
I did, however, (patting self on back) manage to install a
Guestbook in record time, as you'll note below. So, could
you purty please take pity on me and sign it. (Grin) I'll be ever
so humbly grateful.
I know a Guestbook isn't the same as those spiffy "comments" thingies,
but you're more than welcome (and invited) to leave comments about my blog,
or a specific knitted item, or a topic, or just whatever you want to
comment on. This guestbook is easy to operate, and seems to be
functioning quite well. So that's a plus. And you can also leave private
comments too. LOL
On a non-guestbook related issue, we're plum sick of all this rain!!
The weather (powers that be) claim there's a nice clear
skies, sunny-type weekend ahead. Sure hope they're right. We've had
enough rain to float a battleship. Gotta check our feet periodically
just to make sure they're not webbed yet.
I simply HAD to do at least one pair of baby socks for the "Longest Line"
thingie in Germany. If it gets into the Guiness Book of World Records,
I would have been devastated to not have a pair represented from me. Especially
since I'm with the Opal yarn distributor for heaven's sake. Fine kettle o' fish
that would've been. (Grin)
There's still enough time to knit another pair or six, but I'm not making myself any
promises. The minute I did, I'd be off n' running in a zillion other directions, and
making myself sick with guilt for not being able to live up to my promise. So, I'm
just tickled pink that I've accomplished this much, and be satisfied with that. If
by some miracle, I do happen to knit another pair or more, then I'll be eternally
pleased with myself. And now... with that said, it's on to my "dissection".
Remember biology class in High School? I loved that class. Especially the part
where we got to dissect things. Things like frogs n' grasshoppers n' stuff. NO,
I do not like to harm small creatures. But once they've
passed on, I found it very interesting to.. well.. dissect them and see what
made them tick, so to speak.
We lived in Sacramento at the time, in a brand new tract home in South Sac to
be exact. Right smack dab in the middle of acres n' acres of fields. Many
fields of amber waves of WEEDS. Lots n' lots of weeds. With hundreds of jack rabbits almost as big
as kangaroos. And thousands of grasshoppers almost as big as jack rabbits. I kid you not.
It was one such 4 or 5" long grasshopper that I selected to be my dissected specimen. And
a fine specimen he was I might add. He was thee biggest and thee finest dissected grasshopper in
biology class that year bar none. He won me an A+ and I still remember him today, lo these
many years later. But I digress.
I happened to remember my dissecting days, and thought it would be fun to dissect my baby
sock, so.... I did just that. And here it is. Now don't laugh!!
NOTE: No socks were harmed in the making of this dissection.
That pretty white stuff was a faded, or should I say, melted
memory this morning. I knew it wouldn't last long. Sure am
glad I took that picture when I did.
I started my 2nd baby sock last night. I'm on a roll. (Grin)
I had forgotten how much fun knitting baby socks can be. And
quick, the perfect project for me.
I was going to try and match the first sock, then I asked myself.... Hey,
why?
I like the "quirkyness" (is that a word?) of mismatched socks.
Always have, always will. So why change now??
The yarn scraps I'm using for the sock is from the Opal Tutti-
Fruiti and has many colors. So I just started my 2nd sock from
where I left off on the other one and it's definitely going to look
different.
I'd take a picture, but I don't want to jinx myself. Every time
I take a "beginning" picture of my knitting, it seems that I never
get around to finishing the item. So, I'm waiting till I've
finished the sock this time. With luck and no major interruptions,
I'm shooting for finishing tonight.
Well... tomorrow night for sure.

We live right on the ocean, and having snow at sea level
is a rare thing indeed.
The picture is blurry. I snapped
it from inside my kitchen window, but it does show the little
droplets of snow that hasn't melted off yet. WOW!!
You can see the daffodils blooming. They're holding up
pretty well considering how cold it is out there. Cold enough to
bring snow. I'm not used to these chilly temps. Brrrrrrr!!
When our heating bill arrives, I can look back fondly at
this picture and convince myself that the pleasure it brought
was well worth the cost.
Well... tomorrow night for sure.

The "baby sock bug" bit me yesterday, so I started
knitting one and VOILA!! I finished it today!!
That's a terrible picture of the sock. The flash never
works when I want it to, and worked when I didn't. Go
figure. Anyway, you can still see the sock, and I'm
very happy with it. I think it's a real cutie. Now
for the 2nd one. I need to get started on it right
away so I'll have it finished in time for the "Longest
Line Baby Sock" Contest.
Are you wondering what's all this got to do with
today's title?? Well, I'm gonna tell you. I have
been knitting now for over 20 some odd years and
I've known almost since day one that the knitting
rule of thumb is.. "always slip a stitch purlwise
unless otherwise told to do so". Right?? Well,
I just today whilest knitting the heel on my itty
bitty sock, discovered and realized that I've been
slipping all my stitches KNITWISE
since like forever!!! I can't believe it. I am
totally blown away by my discovery. What's even
harder for me to believe is that I've just now
after all these years discovered this. WOW!!
What's even more startling, and perlexing is...
if I've been doing my slipped stitches the wrong
way all these years, why doesn't my knitting look
different from everyone elses?

Pictured here at left is our son Lynn with Grandson Trenton
and Granddaughter Kalynn.
Many of you may recall how ill Trenton was when he was first
born. He almost died. But look at him now!! He's a strong,
energetic (almost 5) year old and healthy as can be. Aaahh,
if only we could bottle some of that energy.
We laughed, we played, we ate too much, and we cried
when we said our goodbyes. But we had a wonderful time.
We always do, and they'll be back again soon. Spring break
is just around the corner, and maybe they can stay for most
of that. Yippeee!! Now where'd
Well... tomorrow night for sure.

And I woke up refreshed and not nearly as depressed as I've been lately. That's
a good sign that my world it settling and not teetering on the brink.
I made the entire thing including adding the strap in an afternoon. And trust me,
I'm the world's slowest knitter. So if I can make it that fast, you could make it
in a snap. Now, that's the kind of projects I like. On and off the needles before sundown
the same day. (Grin)
I hate to bring up the KNITTING OLYMPICS again, but did anyone notice if they had
a category for the "Slowest Knitter in the World"?? If they did, I could've won it
hands down.... literally.
Yep, today IS a brand new day, and I caught myself in the mirror a couple of times
with a smile on my face. I also caught myself humming "Amazing Grace" so that means
that God is replacing my sorrow with contentment. And it feels GOOD!!
What's that?? Is that a moan I hear coming from the living room. Come on guys. My humming's NOT
that bad!!

It's difficult knowing what to write. Today marks one month since
my Dad passed away, and I'm still having a hard time dealing with him
being gone. I feel the need to write, but I'm having such a hard time
putting my thoughts into words. Which is totally unlike me. I'm not
usually at a loss for words. (Grin)
Now that can be a good thing, or it can be
a bad thing, depending on the situation. And in this situation, it is a bad
thing. I mean, what's the point of even uploading the page unless I write something
on it. Eh?
I had thought maybe I would write about my Dad, but I find that I can't.
I guess the pain of loosing him is still too overwhelming for me.
Instead, I'm going to write about missing out on the
I hear that thousands of knitters tossed their "knitting needles" into the proverbial ring, so to speak.
And I didn't. Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhh
Come to think of it, I have been in a knitting slump lately. Especially since Dad
passed away. I do believe I'd rather be bummed out over missing the Olympics than
totally devastated because I couldn't finish my chosen Olympic item to knit. Or worse
yet, not even start it. Yikes!!
Yeah!! That's it. I didn't need to enter the Olympics after all did I?? Whew!! I feel
so much better now. I'm not feeling all bummed out anymore. And best of all, I can see
a good night's sleep in my immediate future.
Good night everyone. Good night Dad. I love you!!
