MATERIALS: 2 skeins wool-ease; dpn's to obtain gauge.GAUGE: 11.5 sts and 15 rows = 2" (approx.) CO 40 sts. K 9 rows. K 5 rws in K1tbl, P1 rib.
BEGIN PATTERN:
Rnds 1, 2 and 3: Knit
Rnd 4: K1, P1 around. Repeat these 4 rnds until sock measures 1" short of desired length. End having worked Rnd 4 of pattern. K 5 rnds.HEEL FLAP: K10, turn. P20. Work back and forth on 20 sts until heel flap measures 2 1/4". End ready to work a WS row.
TURN THE HEEL
Rw 1: Sl1, p12, p2tog,turn.
Rw 2: Sl1, k6, k2tog,turn.
Rw 3: Sl1, p6, p2tog, turn.
Repeat the last 2 rws until all sts have been worked (8 sts remain).GUSSETS:
Pick up and k 10 sts from side of heel flap. K across instep sts. Pick up and k 10 sts from opposite side
of heel flap, k 4 heel sts. K 1 rnd even (14-20-14) Next Row: Ndl 1: K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Ndl 2: K. Ndl 3: K1, ssk, k to end. K 1 rnd. Repeat the last 2 rnds until 40 sts remain. Work foot even until 1 1/2-2" short of desired length.TOE:
Next Row: Ndl 1: K to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. Ndl 2: K2, ssk, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. Ndl 3: K2, ssk, k to end. K 1 rnd. Repeat the last 2 rows until 28 sts remain. Then work "next row" only until 12 sts remain. Weave toe.A quick note! Fun things happen with this pattern if you do the purl stitches in row 4 with a different color.
