GAUGE: Crocheted Granny = 2-1/2" Square KNIT = 10 sts per granny when casting cap onto brim

SIZE: Finished BRIM = 21" around CAP = 8-12" from bottom edge of brim to top of cap

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Experience with Crochet needed and use of Circular needles helpful

BEGIN MINI-GRANNY SQUARES:
With crochet hook and (E) ch 4. Sl st to beg of ch to form ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc throu out). 2 dc in ring, ch 1, *3 dc in ring, ch 1. Rep from *twice more. Tie off.

NEXT: Join color of choice in any ch 1 sp. ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, ch 3 in same ch 1 sp, ch 1, (corner made). *3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 in next ch 1 sp (nxt corner made). Rep from * twice more. Sl st to top of beg ch 3. Tie off. Mini-Granny Square made.
Continue making squares in this manner alternating color choices (as shown in sample). Join squares together to form circle (Cap Brim) with a sc using color yarn of choice.

BEGIN BODY OF CAP:
With circular needles and (E) pick up 90 stitches evenly spaced around brim edge. (Approx 10 sts per granny square, plus at least 1 st between each square for a total of 90 sts.) Place marker to mark beginning of cap. Knit one round, then purl one round with (E). Tie off. Join (C) and repeat one knit round, one purl round. Tie off. Join (B) and repeat same as for other colors. Tie off. Join main color (A) and continue knitting all rounds until cap measures 5-1/2" from beginning edge.

BEGIN DECREASE:
NEXT RND: Decrease 10 times evenly spaced around cap. I used a K1tog for my decrease.
NEXT RND: knit all stitches around. Work a decrease round, then a knit round for a rapid decrease. Continue decreasing in this manner, switching to dpns when necessary, till 30 sts remain. Work one round of decrease EXCEPT decrease only twice leaving 28 sts remaining. Do not tie off or bind off.

MAKE MINI-GRANNY (FOR TOP OF CAP):
With Crochet Hook and (E) work first round same as granny square above. 2nd Rnd: With color of choice, join in any ch 1 space and work 6 dc, ch 1 in each ch 1 sp around. (28 chs). Sl st to beg dc. Tie off.

With (A) from top of cap, cut a tain approx. 36" or longer and attach mini-granny square to top of cap by working a st in each ch of square and each stitch of cap together. (28 sc). Tie off and work in all ends.

BRIM EDGING:
With Crochet Hook and (E) and with Wrong sides facing, work a round of Mini Bobbles as follows: join (E) in any ch of brim edge, sc. In next ch sp *dc, keeping last lp of dc on hook, YO and draw through first loop of dc. (MB) Mini Bobble made. Sc in next ch sp. Repeat from * around brim. Sl st to first sc. Tie off and work in all ends.
