Accordian Socks
(For my friend, Soxie)
This is a super simple pattern combining what I wanted... a fast, easy sock that looked a bit "scrunched" without actually knitting a scrunch sock! It's also with a combo of my friend Soxie's favorite starting pattern and heel turning.

MATERIALS:
One skein Opal (or other sock weight yarn)
Set of Four Size 1 dpn's

GAUGE: 8 sts per inch

STITCH PATTERN:
Rnds 1-5: knit all sts
Rnds 6-7: purl all sts

BEGIN SOCK:
Cast on 72 (64)(56) sts, divide onto 3 needles, join, being careful not to twist.

Knit 5 rnds (Soxie's fave start to a sock). Work 20 rnds k2p2 ribbing. Begin stitch pattern. Repeat Rnds 1-7 (5) times (or more if you desire a longer cuff), then repeat rows 1-5 again.

DIVIDE FOR HEEL:
Place half of stitches onto needle holder or onto one needle. Work remaining heel stitches as follows:
Row 1: sl 1, k1 across
Row 2: purl all sts
Repeat until heel flap measures 2 and 1/4 inches ( or longer/shorter to your specifications), ending with Row 1.

HEEL TURN: (Soxie's Fave):
(place stitch marker at center of sts)
Row 1: sl 1, k 5 sts past center, k2tog, k1, turn.
Row 2: sl 1, p 5 sts past center, p2tog, p1, turn. Continue with Rows 1 and 2 until all sts are worked.

GUSSETS:
Pick up one st in each slipped stitch along side of heel. Knit all sts across instep. Pick up one st in each slipped stitch along other side of heel. Knit half of heel sts, slip remaining to needle one.

GUSSET DECREASE:
Rnd 1: Ndl 1, k to within 3 sts of end, k2tog, k1. Ndl 2, Knit all sts Ndl 3, k 1, ssk, k remaining sts.
Rnd 2: Knit all sts on all needles. Repeat rnds 1 and 2 until you are back to original number of sts.

INSTEP:
Knit all sts until desired length of foot minus 2 and 1/2 inches.

TOE DECREASE:
Rnd 1: Needle 1; k to within 3 sts of end, k2tog, k1. Needle 2; k 1, ssk, knit to within 3 sts of end, k2tog, k1. Needle 3; k1, ssk, knit remaining sts.
Rnd 2: Knit all sts on all needles. Repeat these 2 rows until you have 4 sts on needles one and three, and 8 sts on needle 2. Graft toe.

Finish second sock and enjoy!!
